THE FACTS*: Today more than 14,000 residents in Senior Nursing Facilities are young people living with disabilities (ages 13 +). Each year more than 600 newly injured people with spinal cord injuries are placed in nursing homes because their homes are not accessible. As a result, over half a billion dollars of Medicaid funding per year is spent to “warehouse” young people with disabilities in institutions.
